Chubby Checker was born 10/3/1941. Here's a good video to show you how to do The Twist if you don't know how. "Slow Twistin'" came out in 1962, two years after his original song,"The Twist." My babysitter taught me to do The Twist and I was in heaven! Then came the Mashed Potato, The Pony, The Monkey, The Swim, The Hitchhike, The Bird, The Duck, The Freddie, The Locomotion, The Frug, The Watusi, The Jerk and more, and more, and more...

A then-50-something showed me how to do the twist. Her name was Ruth and she had the habit of cross-mixing her words that made unintended jokes like (to an appliance service man) she said could "set his kool tit in the kitchen." She learned it after showering and drying off with a towel pulled across her backside. I tried it and it worked! Other than doing a slow and wide Charleston step and calling it the jitterbug, that's the extent of dancing skills!
alice: Never thought about using a towel! Great idea. I loved the spoonerism story.
