Vlog - Accents and Regional dialects

Stolen from Memphis Steve, this is an interesting experiment featuring the different voices and dialects of other bloggers.  Since I'm camera shy, you'll have to look at a bowl of peaches and blackberries while the audio plays.  This provides proof that we have NO accents here in the Midwest USA.

Here's the text so you can participate in the experiment too:

Say these words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?

What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?

What do you call gym shoes?

What do you say to address a group of people?

What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?

What do you call your grandparents?

What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Hey that was cool. You sound like me. Except your voice is higher. I think I'll do this later.

Augh!!!!!

I SO wanna do this!!!
How did you do it??

From someone that lives in Ms... to where you live, I don't hear an accent. Maybe a difference in what we call certain things (coke vs pop), but that's not an accent.

This is COOL!!

GLS and Shoes: Do it! The different dialects are interesting, but I also found that hearing various bloggers' voices was even more insightful.

Jane: When did you learn that? I don't remember you talking about roly-poly bugs when you were growing up?

Well, it's a relief to know that I'm not the only one in America who looked at the question about raining while the sun was shining and thought "there's a special term for this?"

Memphis: I guess there's two of us. I don't remember ever hearing the term roly-poly; beetles were just beetles.

I forget how much influence Chicago has on the speech in Central Illinois until I hear the word "pop." I'm from Southern Illinois, have your same neutral accent, but say "soda."

Weirdly enough though, my very rural, almost Kentucky accented in-laws says "sody pop." ?!?!?!
