Shaking bitter women back to reality

Here's an excellent essay that very well sums up my feelings about the modern feminist movement:

" If you weren’t so bitter about the broken promises of Feminism, you would be able to see the difference between Feminism and Women’s Rights."

I don't know any bitter women, Catch, at least not as described in that essay. I guess I'm lucky. That Darryl James guy seems to me to be a bitter man.

crock:Start watching daytime tv if you can't find any in CU, although I'm sure there are plenty of them close by, you are just fortunate enough not to know them

memphis: You're welcome.

surely, you don't want me to get my opinion of women from the Jerry Springer show! I'm sure there are bitter women around. But I think James overstates the case. I googled him and read some of his other stuff. He seems to have an agenda that isn't mine.

There are many women in this world that blame men for every wrong thing in the world; that spout equality, but really want more rights for women and fewer for men; that use "empowerment" as an excuse for bullying; and use their gender as an excuse for victimization and often, in reality, are victimizing men.

Darryl James is controversial, but I agree with him on this one.

I am a feminist, with dozens of feminist friends. As far as I know, none of us are man-hating. I am married to a man, who is also a feminist. He certainly doesn't hate himself.

Feminists have a wide array of beliefs and worldviews, and really mom, you should know better than to think that daytime television is any kind of representation of reality.

My perspective is that people are treated poorly for a lot of reasons--race, gender, sexual orientation, what we do for a living, what town we are from, what we are able to afford. I want to work against this, and feminism is a huge part of that for me.

jane: You want people to have respect for each other, as do I. That is just being considerate, but that is not feminism. It is tolerance.

Feminism is defined as " a doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men." Bitter feminists want more, not equal, rights.

You are not a bitter feminist.

I have a lot of trouble believing there are any significant number of women who want *more* rights than men -- I really do think this argument would be pretty difficult to back up with any kind of data.

It also seems that people who want unequal rights, by the definition you're providing, are NOT feminists.

I think it's better for us all to spend less time criticizing the evil "other", and think about what we we can do together to make the world a better place.

Jane, Bless your heart!!! I can tell you don't live here in Paxton. You aren't exposed to the threats and various methods of intimidation used daily in this town by very bitter people. Some may be "man haters?" I'm not sure if they are or not. Their actions make me wonder, though.
