Obama, Palin, and teen pregnancy

Obama's mother was 18 when he was born on 8/4/1961.
She was married 2/2/61, 6 months before he was born.
I know, it was a premature birth. Right?
Now you know why Obama said to leave Palin alone on this issue.

Obama's mother was a married teen in an age where being pregnant at 18 wasn't common (see data). Palin's daughter represents a growing trend of teen pregnancy. Sure, it would be hypocritical of Obama to call out Palin's daughter for this. It is an opportunity to look at Palin's views on the related issues, like her opposition of any and all birth control or condoms, even for married couples.

Besides, there's plenty of other things wrong with her, along with McCain acting more like a senile old man. It looks like the Dems will win in '08.

Her views on abortion and birth-control are definitely out of touch with modern American.

My point is that the media is focusing on the 17 yr old pregnant girl who is marrying the father, which is identical to Obama's mother's situation, and the media has overlooked the similarity and is chastizing Palin about it.

Maybe I got lucky, but I remember hearing or reading about Obama's mother (in relation to this story) on CNN. It's no media conspiracy.

Here's at least one article, stating, "Obama said reporters should 'back off these kinds of stories' and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother."

That Obama comment about his 18 year old mother is what motivated my research on her marriage and his birth dates. I believe he made the comment about asking the media to leave Palin's daughter alone because he was relating to his mother's experience.

The media is over-exposing the story about Palin's daughter, but I have seen no media coverage about Obama's mother going through the same thing.

This teen pregnancy problem crosses all political boundaries and decades of history. It is not fair to finger point Palin or her daughter when others within the Democratic party have gone through the same thing.

BTW: I support neither party.

Whatever his motivation, doesn't Obama deserve some credit for telling the media to back off on Palin's daughter and threatening to fire anyone on his staff involved with it? McCain had no compunctions about making fun of Chelsea Clinton, when she was even younger than Palin's daughter, saying she was so ugly because Janet Reno was her mother. As you know, I am not unbiased. I think the real issue is not that the daughter got pregnant (parents can't control what their teenagers do) but that both Palin and McCain want constitutional amendments forcing all teenagers to have the baby, and, in Palin's case, even when the pregnancy is caused by rape or incest. That's what should have people up in arms.

Crock: Agreed. But have you been listening to the media? My beef isn't with Obama, it's with the media frenzy about this pregnancy. Very little coverage has addressed the teen pregnancy/birth control issue. The media is more concerned about is who the daughter's boyfriend is and questioning whether Palin is a good mother.

I simply think this poor girl has been attacked by the media who love Obama and cannot see that the same thing happened in Obama's life.

Bristol Palin's obviously not relevant or fair game. The process that brought Sarah Palin to fame, however, is another matter.

You and I don't disagree that much about this, Catch Her. But, it was the McCain campaign that brought Bristol to the lower 48 and made her part of the campaign; it was the McCain campaign that announced her pregnancy, and it was the McCain campaign that has brought the hockey-playing boyfriend to Minneapolis to put him on stage as well. Of course, the media, particularly the cable news channels is over reacting, the media always does. But its over reaction isn't limited to Bristol Palin. How many magazine covers have there been about Ashley Simpson's pregnancy? How many thousand times did we see Rev. Wright saying, "The chickens have come home to roost?" That happens when you get in the spotlight.

Yeah, that went through my mind.
